am 100% dedicate to helping support this movement and giving respect to my elders in my community.

grandmothers and grandfathers are peacemakers and I am proud to help document and tell their brave courageous story of
standing up to the military killingmachine, by protesting, blocking, and even being arrested, and doing
jail and community service to pay for their peace mission statements.

DOVES and BLOOD The Grannies Are Back at The Recruiting Center
The Oregon Extra, a special Peace Edition,
was inserted into over a thousand copies of The Oregonian today. The single page insert was created and distributed by the
Surge Protection Brigade (aka the Seriously Pissed Off Grannies) as a May Day protest. The Extra spotlights subjects that mainstream media will not cover, such as the dangers
and casualties of depleted uranium, the truth behind the lies told by military recruiters and how big media's failure to act
as a watchdog has failed the American people.
A vigilant press is necessary to a vibrant democracy;
at the moment, we have neither. When the "Voice of the Northwest" (The Oregonian) fails us, it is time to speak for ourselves.
Martha Odom of the Surge Protection Brigade says, "On the fourth anniversary
of the Bush costume propaganda piece proclaiming 'Mission Accomplished,' we cannot ignore the media's complicity in the Iraq
quagmire. The lives of countless thousands, both military and civilian, have been sacrificed. Their blood is on the hands
of all who do not oppose this war, and especially on the hands of those who help promote it."
The Surge
Protection Brigade organizes regular nonviolent protest actions in the area. Some include opportunities
for civil disobedience; all are peaceful and designed to promote dialogue about war and violence. The Brigade
is committed to escalating nonviolent civil resistance if our elected officials are not responsive
to the majority of American voters who want the Iraq
occupation to end.

A PISSED OF GRANNIES & GRANDPA PROTEST FILM
From the morning of 4-6-07 - latter 6 were arrested !
For the third week in a row members of the Surge Protection succeeded in shuting down the Army/Marine
Recruiting office in Portland. today it partially reopened after six protesters were arrested.
Eight angry grandmothers threatened to stage a sit-in at the army recruitment center on NE Broadway
and 13th last Friday, forcing the center to close its doors shortly before noon. In response, the activists slapped a "mission
accomplished" sign above the center's door.
The grannies were part of a 50-strong protest organized by Portland's newly formed Surge Protection
Brigade (SPB), a group that is against President Bush's latest plan to send 21,500 more troops to the war in Iraq.
Police say the center decided to close after a representative from Portland Police Bureau's NE Precinct
warned the center about the planned protest. The SPB says they did not contact the cops before the January 19 protest, but
speculates the police may have found out about it by reading portland.indymedia.org.
The Surge Protection Brigade, a coalition of long time peace activists, many of them mothers and grandmothers, went to
the recruiting center today and were greeted with locked doors, despite the sign saying, "OPEN. WALK IN" People were prepared
to be arrested to stop recruiting, but are happy that recruiting was blocked without an arrest. Cristy Murray, one of
the Surge protestors said,"We'll be back every Friday to keep their doors locked - to keep our kids out of harms way." The
Surge Protection Brigade will return next Friday
Four members of the surge Protection Brigade were arrested while closing down the NE POrtland
Army recruiting Center on Friday, March 23rd. It is the eighth time the group has closed the office. A total of ten people
- and seven rocking chairs - have been arrested. Today the rocking chisrs were just cited and released
"Mission Accomplished for today," says the Surge Protection Brigade, as their planned protest at the military recruitment
center on NE Broadway and 13th apparently caused the center to shut down for the day. The group gathered at the center this
morning at 11:45 and stayed until 1:30. One recruiter came to the center toward the end of the protest, saying he had paperwork
to do. He refused to let them in and locked the door as a couple of the protesters tried to force their way in
